This report presents findings from a three-year study of case processing times in 18 general jurisdiction trial courts located in urban areas across the United States. The research has been designed to provide a current picture of the pace of criminal and civil litigation in these courts and to analyze changes that have taken place over the 1976-85 period. The report is intended primarily to be read and used by persons working in and with trial courts.
